  1. Thanks, Colleen! It's amazing to me that the video is supposed to be 7 minutes long, but I feel after watching it that I've only "been there" for about 3. I've watched it a number of times by now :)!

How wonderful that you and your husband can go to a Trappist monastery on retreat TOGETHER.

  2. Thank you, Nancy, for sharing this little view of heaven. The Salve Regina was beautiful. I would love to implement that devotion in the evenings with the children.

    1. The Salve Regina is my favorite part of the video, Carly...when they process with the candles. "Heavenly" is exactly the word for it. What a wonderful thing to do with children at night!

    1. Trish, I was also struck by their joy. I loved their recreation time, with the juggling ... seeing the smiles on their faces. And they are so YOUNG! What hope for the future of religious life.

  4. I loved the post about the bell & the vein. I will definitely be keeping that medical image in mind in the future. One thing I have found helpful as a secular religious for accountability is to ask Jesus, Mary, my patron saints and my guardian angel to pray the office with me in the mornings and evenings. For me the communion of saints provides a wonderful community to come together with in prayer. If I delay for reasons that I can't really justify, they notice and are not above giving me a nudge that I am accountable to them. If the idea appeals, give it a try. You never have to be alone when we have so many friends ready to join us.

    1. Yes, the idea does appeal!! I had never thought of this, and I love it. Thank you for sharing this!

  5. Nancy,
I love the "open vein" analogy. My day goes a whole lot better if I am able to pray before starting the business of the day~especially if I am unable to get to morning Mass.

  7. Lord open my lips and my veins so that I may receive you just when you know I need it. Thanks for this - and for the message of prayer. 1 minute offered to the news or email does turn into 10 and that's NOT fair to Him!

    1. Thank you, Cristina. You're so right - its not fair to HIM. !!

  8. May God richly bless you for your ministry to all of us "out here" who need these beautiful reminders of our blessed vocations as wives and mothers, as women called to live the hidden life of home and family. I have been encouraged by the writing selections and art so very much. I just wanted to thank you.

  9. Nancy,
Thank you for sharing the quote from Abbot Marmion. It can be easy to forget how important the little things that make up our day are to God, and how much grace there is for us in them if we go through each day with the desire to do so according to His will.

  10. "The cloistered life is absolute."
This is something I need to seriously and continuously meditate on. The desire to live more monastically grows stronger week by week. Nancy, thank you so much for faithfully teaching us how to live as cloistered hearts in the world. God bless you.. and the work He has called you to do! xxx

    1. Thank you, Trish! It is such a blessing to feel this kind of call, isn't it?

I know you like John Michael Talbot. Have you ever read his book Hermitage - written in the late '80s, as I recall? I have a feeling you would like it :)! (or already do...??)

  11. I love the lattice-grille the Silverstream monks have in those photos!
And the prayer is beautiful too! I'm beginning to "see" grilles everywhwere...even thought about my flyscreen door the other day. The metalwork on it reminds me of a grille...and it separates the internal rooms of our home from "the world" outside. Actually, I would love to have a tiny private chapel in my house..I already have a Prie Dieu, a "de-sanctified" wooden tabernacle, altar candlesticks and various other chapel type items. Just need to set up some latticework.... :-)

    1. Trish, a friend e-mailed me the link to that video, and I just knew I had to share it! That friend has been seeing grilles everywhere too.... and I have seen them all over the place for 25 years!

I would love to have a private chapel also. You sound as if you have a good collection of items already!

  13. On: It is Time To Defend Your King.
    Nancy,
I love this quote from St. Teresa~she is one of my favorites. Praying for the grace to walk every step with Jesus during these beautiful and bittersweet days of the Triduum.
May God bless you with the graces of these days as well, Nancy.
